MacArthur Blvd. Beautification
In 2019, as part of the Cabin John Citizens Association 100th anniversary celebration, the community took on the MacArthur Blvd. Beautification project. Since then major plantings have been installed along MacArthur Blvd. on both sides of the Clara Barton access road, at the top of lower 78th Street, along roughly 150 feet between 7814 MacArthur Blvd. and Seven Locks Rd., at the top of lower 79th Street and by 82nd Place. Thanks to the impressive efforts of a dedicated committee, helped by a handful of additional volunteers, Cabin John’s “main street” is much improved with flowers blooming almost continually from early spring to late fall. Grasses and other plantings not only add to the beauty, they also serve to make the bike/walking path safer by keeping vehicles on the road. (Before the plantings, cars and trucks thought nothing of pulling on to the grass strip and even the path itself to go around a car stopped on MacArthur Blvd. waiting for a break in on-coming traffic to make a left turn.) Help is needed not only to maintain the areas that have already been planted, but also to continue the beautification effort along the rest of MacArthur Blvd. If you are able to help with this effort, either as a one-time volunteer or on an ongoing basis, please email Susan Roberts or call 301-320-4451. Donations of flowers, plants, mulch and soil are also appreciated.
