Holiday Giving Tree Project
For 10 years, CJ residents have been making the holidays brighter for those less fortunate through the CJ Giving Tree project. This community service effort provides gifts to children and adults in need through SOME (So Others Might Eat), a Washington DC organization that helps the poor and homeless.
Cabin John, together with the Brookmont and Glen Echo communities, provides holiday gifts for some 200 people in SOME’s transitional housing. This worthwhile holiday tradition kicks off around Thanksgiving when the CJ Giving Tree located at entrance to the Clara Barton Community Center is decorated with close to 60 “ornaments” that are selected by CJ residents.
On each paper ornament is the name, gender, and wish list for a child or adult. Gifts are purchased and either dropped off at the organizer’s house or collected at the CJ Holiday Party.
