Chicken & Crab Feast
The annual Chicken and Crab Feast, held the second Saturday after Labor Day, is Cabin John’s largest community event, engaging some 100 volunteers and bringing together more than 500 residents and friends for delicious food, refreshing drinks, live music and good times.
This beloved CJ tradition was started in the 1960s by the African American community on Carver Rd. as a fundraiser for the Cabin John Home Study Program, which provided tutoring and other support for CJ children in the recently integrated Montgomery County public school system. While the crab feast has evolved over the past five decades, it remains an important fundraiser, enabling the citizens association to offer a host of activities and services.
