PREVIEW OF FALL COMMUNITY EVENTS

September means back-to-school, last call at Palisades Pool, and a full slate of events in Cabin John from CJCA and the Friends of CBCC. Welcome to fall!

Sept. 19 The Annual Chicken & Crab Feast is two Saturdays after Labor Day. Tickets are selling and volunteers are prepping. To buy or help, go to cabinjohn.org or use the QR codes. Then, grab a leg or a crab. It’s chow time!

Sept. 23 CJCA Open Meeting. Have you noticed a rise in drivers speeding or ignoring stop signs and crosswalks? CJCA is exploring how to tame threats to pedestrians and bicyclists. Our speaker from the Action Committee for Transit will detail options for better pedestrian and bike safety. Just look both ways to cross the road to the meeting.

Oct. 3 Blood Drive: October marks the last CJCA Inova blood drive of 2026. To give blood, sign-up at inovabloodsaves.org or email CJBloodDrive@gmail.com. Or volunteer to help for an hour or two.

Oct. 21 CJCA Open Meeting. Our guest speaker will update us on the fallout from the sewage spill from the Potomac Interceptor failure just a whiff away from Cabin John. DC Water repairs are ongoing here and at nearby sites. Area environment groups are advocating for more protections and WSSC filed suit for a say in what DC Water does. Join us to find out what all the stink is about!

Oct 24 Haunted House. This is fright night in CJ! The Friends of the Clara Barton Community Center-sponsored event at the community center is the highlight of the fall. Calling all the ghosts and goblins—kids of all ages are welcome at this ghoulish gathering. Fear not, it’s more treat than trick.

Nov. 26 Turkey Trot: Begin your Thanksgiving day by working off the stuffing and potatoes in advance. The trot’s start and finish are on the CJ ball field by the community center. Runners and walkers are both welcome. We also need volunteers along the route to help keep participants on course. Then you can eat your heart out.

Dec. 6 Annual Craft Show: The Friends of Clara Barton Center transforms our social hall into a colorful bazaar hosting vendors offering a treasure trove of far-flung crafts, clothes, tchotchkes and trinkets. Just in time for the gift giving season. It’s a great way to fill those stockings hung by the chimney.

Dec. 13 Holiday Party: CJCAdecks the halls with festive food from local restaurants, decorations, treats, and the warmth of families and friends sharing good cheer. Later, a CJ volunteer firetruck brings a big, bearded figure in red through town to collect toy donations for the needyCome share in the good will.
