HOLIDAY PARTY
This year’s Cabin John Holiday Party for young and old will be on Sunday, December 15, 5:00-7:00 pm at the Clara Barton Neighborhood Recreation Center (CBNRC). This is an event co-sponsored by the CBNRC and the CJCA. We’ll have food, drink, music, merriment, the world-famous raffle, and a visit from Santa!
Please note–all children must be accompanied by an adult 18+; this is not a drop-off event.
Volunteers are needed to help run the party. If you can assist with decorating, set up of tables and chairs, food pickup, or contacting merchants for the raffle, please reach out to cjcapresidents@gmail.com.

GIVING TREE
2024 marks the 15th year that the Cabin John community will be providing resources and love-in-action to the 200 families in SOME’s transitional housing. It is always so heartwarming to see how many of our families participate each year.
So Others Might Eat (SOME) is a local, DC-based nonprofit that fights poverty and homelessness by providing housing, healthcare, training, and social services, and this joint effort by the communities of Brookmont, Glen Echo, and Cabin John has become the largest source of holiday-season support, empowering parents to provide gifts under the tree for their children on Christmas morning, and basic necessities for themselves.
HOW TO GIVE:
In previous years ornaments were hung on trees outside the community center but this year the tree will be inside. Ornaments are printed with gift card denominations. There are NO specific gift requests this year as SOME does not have staff sufficient to manage the individual gifts.
This year we are asking for gift cards in $50 increments to stores such as Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Macy’s as well as gift cards for Visa and Mastercard would be most appreciated. You do not need to select an ornament from the tree in order to donate.
Purchase the cards yourself and drop them off at Lori Rieckelman’s house (6423 79th Street) or order them from the merchant online and have them sent directly to Lori. Text her (301-655-4404) when you have left items in the bin on her porch so that she can quickly retrieve them. You may also give items to Lori at the holiday party on December 15. Please write the amount on the gift cards in case it is not already printed on the card. You can also send your donation to Lori by either Venmo (@Lori-Rieckelman) or Zelle (rieckell@aol.com) and she will purchase gift cards in your name.
