Plans for Development in Cabin John Move Forward

You may have seen the signs on MacArthur Boulevard protesting development on 80th Place in Cabin John and wondered “What’s going on?”  Potomac Heritage Homes (PHH) plans to build four residences on the 2.3-acre wooded lot between 80th and 81st Streets, and in order to do so will bulldoze half the forest on the property.  This will destroy the green space and wildlife that our neighborhood values so much.  This will also significantly increase the run-off from this lot–resulting in greater flow into the creek and culvert that runs beneath MacArthur Boulevard.  This could have significant implications for properties located downstream from the construction site.

PHH recently held a neighborhood meeting, a required step before it submits a development plan to the county for approval.  Discussions were contentious; the developer stated that he will not make any concessions to the community and that his primary concern is “maximizing the economic value of the property.”  We are waiting to see if he submits his plan to the county or holds another meeting.  There will be future opportunities for Cabin John residents to make their voices heard on this issue; if you’d like to receive updates, please email nathan.canestaro@gmail.com to get on our mailing list.
