Potential Traffic Headaches In Store For Seven Locks Rd.

The WSSC is about to begin a two-year sewer expansion project that is likely to impact traffic at River Rd and Seven Locks for the duration of the project. Called the Cabin John Sewer Relief Project, it is an $8 million overhaul of the sewer system paid for by Federal Realty Investment Trust to expand some 2,700 feet of sewer main along River Rd. and Seven Locks Rd. (See attached photo.) The added capacity is needed because of development along Rockville Pike, including Pike and Rose, and the upcoming White Flint redevelopment.

Phase one of the project is along Seven Locks Rd and the contractors expect it “to begin in earnest in early February (i.e. the actual digging, with the related lane closures, etc.). This work will largely be done at nighttime. Until then, the contractor will be doing some test pitting and saw cutting of asphalt, which will involve some related temporary lane closures during the day, outside of rush hour,” according to Jay Corbalis, a Federal Realty employee who is on the Cabin John Sewer Project Team

Please let the CJCA know of any issues you have in conjunction with this project so that we can see if they can be addressed.
