County Shares Plans of MacArthur Blvd. Improvements

In preparation for the Jan. 22nd Cabin John Community Association Meeting, CJCA President Burr Gray and Vice President Greg Pawlson recently reviewed the county plans for revamping the bike path along MacArthur Blvd. (Photos of the plans are posted below.) CJCA will continue to monitor the project and provide status reports as construction proceeds.

The project, titled MacArthur Blvd. Bikeway Improvements, “provides for bikeway improvements along 13,800 feet of MacArthur Blvd. from 495 to Oberlin Ave,” according to project documents posted on the county website. As part of the project, the road is slated to be widened “to provide 2-3 feet shoulders to accommodate the needs of on-road commuter and experienced bicyclists. The existing shared-use path will be upgraded to current standards to promote usage and enhance safety for all users.”

A Nov. 2012 engineering progress report by the county’s Department of Transportation provides a milestone schedule for the project that has the first phase of construction, utility relocation, commencing in February. The progress report estimates that the project could be “substantially completed” by Sept. 2014.
